Moving Meditations for New Beginnings | Day 6: The Five Positions of Focus

Starting off these Moving Meditations for New Beginnings the way every The Moving Prayer class and rehearsal starts – with the Five Positions of Focus! The Five Positions of Focus is inspired by the first Five Positions in ballet. They set the foundation for becoming a Moving Prayer by allowing us to focus on our relationship with God, the universe around us, and ourselves. Now we will combine all five positions into one movement phrase! If the thought of putting together a string of movements scares you, no worries- our first position is breathe! Take a deep breath- we are about to embark on a new beginning! Whether you’re dancing for the first time or you have been dancing forever, allow this moment to be new. Today is the feast of the Epiphany, which celebrates the arrival of the Magi. “Epiphany” means a sudden revelation or insight into the essential or the meaning of something. What will you allow yourself to see? To feel? To do? Take this movement meditation and allow yourself to see you do something new and feel what you feel. Breathe in deeply, then brings hands up in front of you, arms bent at the elbows as if holding your hands out for a gift. Receive this gift by first unburdening and surrendering anything holding you back, including your nerves- offer it to God. With this wonderful gift you’ve been given, no matter how big or small, silly or practical it may seem, share it lovingly with others by spreading your arms wide side to side. As you share your God-given gifts, you reveal yourself as a channel of love. So take your arms up to the Heavens! Reach high to the sky and look to the face of God by lifting from your heart! Feel the love you bring to others but also to yourself. Take care and know you are worthy of love and the most important love of all- Divine Love. Bring your arms down to cross your heart and give yourself a nice hug, holding onto your shoulders. How did it feel to put everything together? Anything exciting, scary, new? Whatever it may be, let the Spirit move you!
