Moving Meditations for Lent | Day 34: “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.”

“Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” Luke 23:46 . Jesus’ last words. Jesus has gone through hopelessness, the feeling of abandonment, and the feeling of defeat. And yet in His final moments, He reveals His unwavering trust in God. This is the strength of our faith and love for God, it is stronger than anything else we may have. So utilize it- tap into it. When things get hard, don’t simply rely on inner strength, rely on God. It is easier said than done, of course. But we don’t have a lot to lose.

. . .

Following gestures we learned earlier this Lenten season, take your hands and bring them in front of you. Imagine lifting up your burdens, your troubles, and your worries to God. Remember that in order to receive your gift from God fully, we must give up what holds us back. And then bring your arms wide open in a complete surrender, offering all of yourself and all of your love to God.
