Moving Meditations for Lent | Day 30: “Woman, behold your son. Son, behold your mother.”

“Woman, behold your son. Son, behold your mother.” John 19:26–27 . When Jesus left Mary to John at the Cross, Jesus left His Mother to everyone. He promised love and protection during His absence, showing the continuous light and love of God. This love is not only within Jesus but with Mary and with the Apostles but also with each other. We are called to care for one another and under this care we will receive the love and protection of God through His mother.. . .

Take your hands and place them on your belly in a heart shape, a gesture we did earlier during the season representing the Mother. Take those hands and spread them out in front of you and open them outward, showing your willingness to serve everyone all around you. Bring your arms back in and place them on your belly. The love of God resides within you and has been made present by the life given to you through your mother. This love remains and we share it with one another. In return, we receive the love of God through others. The love of God flows through all of us, and even at times, when Jesus seems absent, remember that Love is all around.
