“Journey with Jesus on the Way of the Cross” For the next two weeks we will begin journeying with Jesus on the Way of the Cross, also known as the Stations of the Cross. The Stations of the Cross is truly an embodied prayer, recounting Jesus’ footsteps and physical struggle carrying the Cross while also asking the people offering the prayer to take a walk themselves. For our Moving Meditations for Lent, we will be meditating on one station a day.
. . .
We begin with the first station where Jesus is condemned to death. This is the start of this journey, so I ask you to begin taking a walk. Seems simple? How about taking each step with intention! Jesus was just condemned to death. The weight of each step may get heavier, the pacing slower, maybe each step taken with a slight hesitation or pause. At first we may walk with uncertainty but suddenly we realize this is the will of God. And so maybe our walk is transformed, maybe more resolute, more dignified, and infused with a sense of duty. Yet maybe some doubt. Or maybe you walk with sadness and despair. Whatever you choose, MOVE. And move with intention. And remember that each step is different. Even with a sense of single-mindedness, each step can change, each intention can change, each prayer can change. Be open to the way the Spirit moves you.
