The Good Kind of Tired

My weekend at the Dominican Preaching in Action Conference may be coming to an end, but the dancing continues with a presentation at the Idente Missionaries Family Day tomorrow and a few presentations this weekend. With a full-time job and scattered dancing gigs like this every other weekend or so, this life is taking a toll on my body and even my mind. But my spirit pulls me through and so this tired is the good kind of tired. Here’s a poem that I wrote (the first poem I’ve written in a long time) to describe how I feel about always being in motion.

As my mind unravels the way satin ribbons come untangled
I am surprised to find myself easily at peace

Because though my body is weary, my outlook is cheery
I think to myself “there is no place I’d rather be”

This is the good kind of tired
The kind of tired that makes you excited to go to bed
This is the good kind of tired
The kind of tired that makes you excited to wake up and do it all again

As my day comes to a close, I find myself at most
Not dreading for the morning to arrive

Because I know another day means time for another way
For me to do something that makes me come alive

This is the good kind of tired
The kind of tired that makes you excited to go to bed
This is the good kind of tired
The kind of tired that makes you excited to wake up and do it all again

Energy drained but not done in vain
My refreshed soul will keep me moving until I rest

Because when you love what you do, nothing will ever stop you
From doing what you need to be your best

This is the good kind of tired
The kind of tired that makes you excited to go to bed
This is the good kind of tired
The kind of tired that makes you excited to wake up and do it all again
